SAT 16 JAN PARLIAMENT HILL FIELDS,
HAMPSTEAD HEATH.
TEAM POSITION - 50th of 62 completing teams. Winners Beds & County with 6
runners in first 38, by 6 points from New Ham and Essex Beagles. Individual
winner was UK International Frank Tickner of Wells City Harriers in 46m 14s,
while much interest focused on a convincing win in the Ladies' u/20 race by
Steph Twell, European champion and a runner of huge promise.
Ankle-deep mud in parts, some fast downhill sections such as the extra long home
straight and short sharp hills which hit you when least expected, are regular
features at the 'Spiritual Home of South of England Cross Country' which
requires every bit of effort over an unusual distance of 15k.
Following the recent County Champs, again a case of 'everyone must finish' with
six required to compete as a team. When mud-splattered runners completed the
first of their three gruelling laps, it was evident that conditions were 'as
normal'. The whole team however were up for it and with Steve Earley the first
Harrier home, a few places short of the first 200,a very solid overall
performance was the outcome.
My thanks everyone for a great day at The Heath.
NB Next Championship race - The 'National' of course on 23rd Feb at Alton
Towers - line up of seven Harriers and BUFF heading up the arrangements, so
another entertaining day is guaranteed
