Race Report
Having travelled to Milton Keynes in the rain I
was wondering whether it would get worse when parkrun started so I contemplated
carrying my umbrella with me. Afterall, I was anticipating finishing last in
what I have decided to rename as 'parkwalk'.
A good crowd of 99 participants came along and about three minutes into the run
(walk!) the rain stopped, the temperature rose, and so others would have thought
that I was dressed incorrectly / inappropriately for the weather. I probably was
as the banana costume is having a rest for a few weeks!
Last week when I walked the 5K course I was able to keep up with some of the
runners until reaching the zig zags. Everyone except Jill had disappeared off
into the distance after about 500 metres this time. However, it was good to have
a chat to Jill especially as we do not usually get the chance, she is either
sorting out the chips or the times whilst I am running.
The 'strange' man was lurking on the bridge near the zig zags again. I say
strange as he is not one of the parkrun photographers but he always takes a
photograph of me every time I go passed and many of the parkrunners (at the same
event) never see him. He is definitely not in my imagination as Annie has been
with me several times and now Jill has. Not wearing my costume this week and
last week must have 'thrown him' as the photographs were only taken as we got
closer.
The rest of the event was pretty much 'uneventful'. It was a little difficult to
spot some of the signs and distance markers as they had been positioned in
different places this week so if I had been running, I may have completely
missed them.
I managed a quick sprint-walk for the final 20 metres and wasn't last (hurrah).
However, that 5K of walking had worn me out (despite the fact I can run a
marathon and still have energy afterwards to go shopping, eating and drinking).
The rest and drink in the cafe afterwards was just what was needed straight
afterward the event and then a cold shower when I got home.
Specifically looking forward to the next parkrun.....
