It was a good start to kick off my 'running' year with the Wellingborough Multi Terrain Series Race 1. I have always enjoyed this challenging course with the large muddy hill, which even I am surprised about due to my dislike of hills and mud! However the atmosphere and organisation has always been great and knowing that it is suitable for beginners and slow enough at the back always puts me at ease.

After having so much snow and ice over the holidays and then the rain yesterday I was absolutely dreading the event today. I had visions of Glastonbury a couple of years ago. Glastonbury with mud everywhere and music is fun..... Running with mud everywhere and music is not!

To ensure that I didn't get cold I had a couple of layers on the top and bottom and was hoping that it would provide enough suction for all of the excess weight put on over the holidays (didn't fancy running in Bridget Jones underwear)!

Several Harriers participated in the 5K, 10K and 15K distances. Surprisingly the mud was not as bad as I had imagined but it still took its toll when I climbed up the hill. I was slightly unamused that the professional photographer was at the top of it to take photographs of us looking at our worst (o.k. my worst!) Luckily the weather was good although a little chilly to start.

The awards at the end of the race always gets a chuckle, watching the winners slipping and sliding to get up onto the podium for their photographs and prizes. It was even more funny this time round as quite a number of winners had changed into their cycling gear to cycle back home and they obviously found it more difficult to climb up due to their shoes. The podium looked uneven too...glad Health and Safety were not there!

Richard and I were chatting over the first lap and thanks to him my finishing time was better than I anticipated (the only exercise I had done since Buntingford 10 has been more-or-less walking from the sofa to the fridge and back). A fantastic result for Tim though - First Male Super Vet!! Well done to everyone who ran today.
