Marathon 91 was the Belvoir Challenge. This event is put on to raise money for Harby School and the whole village seemed to be helping, which was just as well because there were over 1000 competitors doing the 15 or 26 mile course. It was a bit chilly before the start but I decided not to join the aerobic warm-up - the last thing I needed was 20 minutes of jumping around before a 26 mile run. What I really needed was a bacon butty from the BBQ and another cup of tea! It was turning into a beautiful day and within a mile of starting I had stripped of my jacket and gloves. I settled into an easy run as we headed for Belvoir castle. Initially the course was flat but once we reached the castle that changed, but the rolling countryside was a delight to run in despite it seeming to be uphill most of the time. After about 5 miles I'd met up with a friend from Dunstable Road Runners and what with the good weather, scenery and company the mile just ticked past. Unusually for this sort of event it was a marked course so we didn't have to read instructions either. It couldn't get much better, or did I forget to mention the home baked cakes at the checkpoints? Perhaps the only negative would be the number of styles we had to climb over but that is being picky. 26.2 miles according to my Garmin in 4:43:53 (4:45:26 on the official results).
