I returned to Toulouse this weekend for reunions with old friends, gastronomy
and the marathon. Given my lack of training and motivation I should be well
pleased with my 3:15:04 for 4th in over 60 category (MV3). I am still trying
to work out how I got round comfortably on a single cup of water and 6 jelly
babies. There was definitely no need to go short of drink or food as there
were very frequent well-stocked feeding stations. Also plenty of entertainment
with live music every couple of kilometres, stilt walkers and supportive
crowds who can read the runners' names printed on their numbers. My "Robert
dit Bob" caused some confusion so there were many welcome several shouts of 'Allez
Bedford'.
I highly recommend this event. A flat
course finishing in the centre with some 3000 particiipants - not too many to
create logistical nightmares. The Saturday night Pasta Party was good too,
held on the 6th floor of new building with magnificent views towards the
Pyrenees of the setting sun.
