The Conti Lightning Run is a twelve hour
completely off-road running event open for solo runners and teams and was
held on Sunday 4th May 2014 in the grounds of Catton Park (the home of the
Adidas Thunder Run 24 hour). A new 10k course was set for the Conti
Lightning Run 12 Hour which was very challenging as it was enjoyable,
taking in breathtaking scenery as it weaved its way up and down hills,
through woodland, bluebell woods and across fields, but unforgiving
underfoot in some places as the ground wwas baked hard and rutted in
places. I travelled with 10 runners from the Wellingborough Green Army (W&DAC),
4 solos runners and 5 member ladies team, and set up camp Saturday
afternoon. The event started at 06:00am with an event briefing at 05:30am
and so we were up at 04:30am for breakfast and to prepare for a 12 hour
run. At 06:00am the hooter sounded and we started on the first 10km loop,
which was to be repeated a further 5 times to give a total of 60km (37.5
miles) in 10:45:08.
