So, my worst time ever for a half marathon but enjoyable nevertheless!
10 days after Norovirus, lots of hours at work, loads of work foreign travel, a lack of miles in my legs, 'no racing' since November - should really have told me not
to do this run......but when have I ever been sensible and done what I should do!
For those that don't know, the Cambridge Boundary run is, unsurprisingly, a run round the outer boundary of Cambridge using road, paths, gravel tracks, mud and water.
It's one of those races that can be a Half Marathon (half the way round the outside of Cambridge) or the full marathon. I chose the half marathon.
The run doesn't have any chip timing, there are very few marshals on the route and the signage consists of stick up signs (many of which were blown away in the wind)
and arrows marked on the ground using flour (not good in the previous night's wind and rain). It's not a big shiny run but that's what makes it enjoyable.
Despite running in to a howling gale for the whole race (there aren't many hills or buildings around the outskirts of Cambridge) and the fact that I wasn't really fit
enough to do the run I enjoyed the race - does that make me a proper runner or just plain stupid? I'll leave you to decide!
An enjoyable run and one I shall do again!
