It stated with a nice swim in
Ulswater, which was shortened to about 1.1 km because the water was so cold,
only 11 degrees! The bike was 38 miles and went over Kirkstone pass which is a
3½ mile climb, with one flat bit to recover in the middle, then about 1 in 4
near the top. I made the mistake of driving it the day before and gave myself a
bit of a fright as that wasn’t to only big climb! Unfortunately I had to get off
and push the last bit because my quads cramped up, but I wasn’t the only one!
Walking was almost as fast as cycling up anyway! To finish off we had 9 mile
run………...up Helvellyn, well a brisk walk up mostly and then run down. Needless
to say I was absolutely knackered by the finish. My time was a bit slow, but as
I wasn’t even sure I would finish after looking at the bike course, so I’m happy
just to have done it!
