Around 500 people turned up for the MK Olympic Distance Triathlon based at Emberton Park near Olney.  There were 4 waves each containing over 100 people with the ladies going off last.  The distances were due to be 1500m swim, 40k bike and 10k run.  All 3 elements were "accurately measured" but I think most people know it was short especially the run.  Some people were recording times which even the Kenyans would be pushed to do on a track let alone after having been swimming and cycling.

Officially I was last but I don't care as it was the longest triathlon I have ever finished and with the lack of training over the last 7 years in theory I shouldn't even be able to finish one of these, let alone do a half decent time.

I was happy with my swim despite drinking half of the lake, which would explain why the lake gets shallower each time!  On the bike I was overtaken by pretty much everyone.  The few who didn't overtake me on the bike got their chance when my chain came off after about 18 miles and it took me about 4 minutes to get it back on.  I know absolutely nothing about bikes and couldn't work out how the top and the bottom of the chain seemed to be on the same side as the round metal things with teeth like edges.  You know the thing I am talking about.  Anyway, with a bit of brute force and playing around with the gear lever things I managed to get it back on.  Whilst I was messing around with the bike, there was a rabbit watching me from the other side of the road.  I am sure he/she was amused by my frustration of not knowing what I was doing.

According to the milometer on the bike, the bike route was only about half a mile short, so not too bad.

Then on to the run.  My legs were pretty much jellified by this time and I was walk/jogging the whole way round.  I think most people went past me at least once.  Personally I would think the course is closer to 8½-9k and is no where near 10k  Having been running for 13 years now I know roughly how long it takes to do a 10k and even without doing the swimming/biking I would be close to the hour, so to do 65 minutes at snails pace is completely unrealistic.  I think you could safely add another 10 minutes on to that time for the full 10k.

Anyway, it was a good fun day, nice Hoodie for finishing, down side is it's black so the cats will no doubt cover it in hairs.  I am considering getting the cats shaved though for that reason!
