Boxing Day 10

Stuart Bartlett and Kevin Willett who were among the first twelve to finish in the Boxing Day ten at Cople. Nicky Klabe who was the fourth lady to finish. Nicky's time of 68:12 was the fastest run over the distance by a lady member of the Harriers in 2000. 


The Fila Mudman

Viv Kilgour finished 4th from 38 ladies in the Fila Mudman Duathlon run on the 25th November. The event consisted of a 3.5k run, followed by an 8k bike ride followed by a further 1.5k run. Viv's times for the three races were 15:51 mins, 50.03mins and 6.42 mins respectively. Her overall time of 72:36 was  three minutes behind the winner. 

 


Club Half Marathon Championship: Sunday 5th November

A successful day for Bedford Harriers at the Stevenage Half. Kevin Willett was the first Harriers to finish and the third overall in a new pb of 1:20:54. Paul Langford (1:21:19) was the second Harrier to finish and the 2nd MV40 and Graham Bufton (1:26:26) was the third Harrier. 

The first lady Harrier to finish and the 5th overall was Avril Thomas (1:33:37). Janet Clark (1:34:49) was the second Harrier lady to finish and the 8th overall and Kath Grahn (1:37:51) was the third Harrier lady and the 11th overall. Avril, Janet, Kath and Teresa Munns  won the ladies team prize.

Stevenage Half Marathon


Three Marathons in Three Days!: 28th/29th/30th October

Tremendous performance by Colin Bennetts who recently ran three marathons in three days. 

The first was the Seven Sisters on the 28th October. The second was the Snowdon Marathon on the 29th and the third was the Dublin Marathon on the 30th. Colin's times for the three races were 4:53:00, 4:03:26 and 3:51:16 respectively. Colin was accompanied on the first of the two races by Cliff Smith. Cliff ran 4:02:00 at Seven Sisters and 4:03:56 at Snowdon. Viv Kilgour ran with Colin at Dublin. Viv's time for the race was the same as Colin's at 3:51:16.

Today's Runner Cross country League:    
Delapre Park, Northampton: 29th October

There was an excellent turnout by the club for the first of this year's five-race Today's Runner cross country league at Northampton.  The first seven Harriers men to finish and score were Kevin Willett, Matt Burgin, Graham Bufton, Richard Piron, Paul Waite, Paul Langford and Steve Gaunt. The first four lady Harriers to finish were Jo Sawyers, Kath Grahn, Janet Clark and Jenny Lovesey. 


Gt North Run - 22nd October 2000

At least 43 members of the club ran in this year's Gt North. Weather conditions were ideal and loads of new pb's were set. First Harrier to finish was Graham Bufton in 1:28:30 and first ladies were Deirdre Bethune and Eve Brett both in 1:54:00.


Standalone 10K -15th October

Our mens 10k championship at Standalone was won by Paul Langford in 36:22. Kevin Willett (36:39) was second and Franck Monmont (37:04) third. The ladies championship was won by Avril Thomas (43:02) with Veronica Singleton (43:05) second and new member Kath Grahn (44:58) third. 


Robin Hood Marathon & Half 

Well done to both Malcolm and Terry McEwen who both set new PBs at the Robin Hood marathon.  Malcolm knocked 20 mins of his previous best to run around 3.40.00 and Terry improved his time by about a minute to 2.39.00. Derek Morrison also improved his half marathon time by 32 secs to 1.40.38 at the same meeting.


Swineshead 10

Paul Langford won the Swineshead 10 for the second successive year in a time of 60:15.  Kevin Willett was the second harrier to finish and the third overall in 62:05. Paul, Kevin and Bill Jordan won the men's team prize.  


Two Bridges Ultra 35

Saturday 26th August 2000

Well done to Malcolm McEwen and Cliff Smith who both successfully completed the 35 mile Two Bridges Ultra race on Saturday. Malcolm finished the Dunfermline run race is five hours and in the process clipped 20 minutes of his previous best for the marathon. Cliff got home in around 5 hours 20 minutes. 


Blisworth 5: Friday 18th August

Franck Monmont (28:47) won the club's 5 mile championship race at Blisworth on 18th August. The second man to finish was Steve Gaunt (29:30) with Graham Bufton (30:49) third.

The ladies championship was by Avril Thomas (32:32) with Janet Clarke (33.51) second and Veronica Singleton (34:30) third. Avril and Janet finished in the top ten ladies overall.

Arlington 5K Series Wednesday 16th August 2000

Congrats to Martin Leach, Steve Gaunt and Ray Evans on being in the first ten in the Bedford Park Arlington 5k series.

Handicap Race: 9th August 2000

Congrats to Colin Liddard on winning the club's 5k handicap race in Bedford Park. Congrats also to Debbie Bilham on being the first harrier lady to finish. Simon De'ath was the second male to finish and Mark Holland the third. The second lady to finish was Jackie Laws followed in third place by Caroline Moore. Colin and Debbie will receive their winners trophy's at the club's awards night in December.


Eastern Road League

Bedford Harriers have had another successful year in the 5-race Eastern Road League. The winners were:

Category LA Jackie Bullard - 2nd Vet
Ladies Team Prize: Avril Thomas, Chris Armstrong, Jackie Bullard, Liz Byer.


Cranfield University 5K: 28th July 2000

Congrats to Kevin Willett and Janet Clark for being the first male and lady Harriers to finish in the Cranfield University 5k, our 5k championship race.  Kevin was followed home by Paul Langford and Matt Burgin. The second lady to finish was Veronica Singleton followed by Cathy Rogers. Janet, Veronica and Cathy also won the ladies team prize.
