Mike Barnard, who ran in the Daffodil Half, wonders if it really was a half; Debbie Bilham also has her doubts. Here are their reports.
"This should be renamed the 'daft' half. I made what felt
like a reasonable start, doing a lap not far adrift of the leading pack around
the start area before going off on to the roads. So it came as a major surprise
to see 10min on my watch at the 1-mile marker. Think I've walked a mile faster
than that! At 3 miles my time was 23min, and I completed the first circuit
around 49min, so it was a pleasant surprise to complete lap two in 43min and
finish around 1:32:50.
i checked this discrepancy with other runners around me, and all reckoned the
first mile was in fact at least a mile and a half. A tough and challenging
pre-London workout it certainly was, but accurate -- never!"

I too thought that the first mile was nearer a mile and a
half but I think the times might be interesting as well. At the start we had to
run a circuit within the grounds of Castle Ashby, which brought us around by the
finish. I had a glance at the clock, which by then was showing over 11 minutes
had elapsed. Now I know I'm not that quick, but.! By the way this happened
a good half mile before I got to the "1 mile" marker.
