"This was a small field for a new heartbeat-event – they organised the chicks chase (s) during the summer. Another couple of x/c are taking place later this year. It was a hard course with a number of hills. Not PB material. The organisers didn’t tell us that the course was slightly longer than advertised i.e. 5.5k and 11k because they thought we might not run. They were probably right. The course includes Bannerdale Hill in the middle of the park – they use that for the firework display on Bonfire night so that the fireworks can be seen for miles around. That weekend, the weekend of the great North, the weather was atrocious. First it rained, and then poured then thunder and lightning. When the sheep decided to get under cover, we knew it couldn’t get any worse…….then it hailed. Once finished, there was proper food – bananas, melon, pasta etc….really well looked after. They do chip timing which didn’t quite work this time because everything got water logged but the organisation was very good and the marshals were fantastic. A hard run for anyone who wants to train for x/c"
