EASTERN VETERANS ROAD RELAYS,
(29th April 2007)
Home
The rural calm of Hemingford Grey, home of retired prime
ministers and equally protected wild life, was only mildly disturbed by the
annual running of this event, over a 3.2 km loop around near-perfectly level
Cambridgeshire lanes.
Despite a low turnout there was some good quality running.
Male and female teams all stated together and in the Ladies' contest there was
a real dust-up over the first stage, with Tanya Taylor of Nene Valley handing
over in first place just a few meters ahead of ANNA LITCHFIELD in a brisk time
of around 11min 30sec. With ANDREA WARD and SALLY CARTWRIGHT then gaining the
lead comfortably for the remaining two stages, the Harriers team extended
their run of cleaning up local opposition, and will surely improve even
further when taking on stronger opposition.
AVRIL MONMONT, continuing on her comeback trail, ran a
positive first for our second Ladies' team, which overnight had become a
''mixed all-stars team'', with JUDY and DAVID PRIOR tackling the second and
third stages with great spirit, and even challenging the Harriers 65+ team
until BILL BILLINGTON, unfazed by his recent sterling London Marathon effort
pulled away. So yet another win for the ''supercrock'' team, for whom MAURICE
CROOK and JIM HENDRY had costed round the first two stages.
My thanks to the teams for an entertaining morning!
NB Medals and team trophies await collection when I next see
you.
