Northants Ultra 35 "Shires and Spires"

Rob Bishop and I met up at Lamport Hall for the start, both thinking to take it a bit easy after our recent exertions. This was easier said than done on this challenging course which combines both off road and on road sections, takes in views of many fine Northamptonshire estates (Cottesbrooke Hall, Althorp) and doesn't stint on the hills. The weather was a tad drier than last year when it rained cats and dogs at the start, however, it was quite humid and for good measure it rained cats and dogs at the end. Quite a few managed to get lost - some more than once. The navigation was solely by map, which makes it quite social as runners group together (usually at cross roads) to help each other out. The last 6 miles were a hard grind with my running partner (Glyn of Leighton Fun Runners) keeping me going with repeated glances at his watch but we got the sub 7 hours that we were looking for
