Today I returned to the latest edition of my first race in SW France – the half-marathon at Montauban. My time, 1:28:10, was nearly 2 minutes slower than last year. This can probably be assigned to the things I am currently experiencing - the steep bit of the age-performance curve, wine and foie-gras so I shouldn't complain. However, once again, the really important (and longer) part of the event was the après course where participants collected local goodies - bread, honey, wine, tee-shirt, mug and wrist band - in a wooden box provided for the purpose and also enjoyed an excellent buffet lunch in the sunshine. A better-than-usual glass trophy for first in my age category (V3) completed the day's collection.
