This is a well established race (339 finishers this year) in a great location.
The swim started on the main beach and we headed off (in waves of about 60 to
100) toward the harbour quay. this was a climb out, get-back-in swim (probably
to avoid the use of a buoy. then return, swimming parallel with the shore for a
while. There was a long run from the beach up to T1 which reflects our slow swim
times. The bike route headed west climbing steadily before dropping back down
sharply into Corfe Castle. We then headed out on the main Wareham road before
turning back to Corfe and then another climb to the North of the village and
back into Swanage via the Studland end of town. The run was roads and footpath
in the suburbs of Swanage and then a steep off-road climb (400' in total) with
steps cut into the chalk up onto the headland between Swanage and Studland.
Superb views here across to Brownsea Island and Poole if you had time to look.
The return was a narrow trail off the hill followed by a final 2k on (busy)
roads and paths.
Would make a good club weekend trip next year!
