Marathon 93 was another visit to Stevenage to run the Fairlands Valley Challenge course in celebration of 100 Marathon Club member Jack's 60th Birthday. 44 of us set off just as the sun started showing itself and as I'd listened to the weather forcast which said it was going to be freezing cold I ended up carrying all sorts of stuff that I didn't need. I was navigating from memory which served me well for most of the time. I did have the benefit of running with the 100 club chairman for most of it and he saved me having to get out the instructions once or twice. The course heads off down the valley taking in a few hills on the way and then its uphill all the way back. Having felt quite tired during the week I was pushing the pace perhaps more than I should have so I was pleased with the 4 hour 31 minute result.
Astute followers will have wondered what happened to marathon number 92? When I was counting how many times I've run this course (7 including this time) I found that I hadn't recorded last year's 50k variant. Bonus!
