I enjoy the the type of off-road course used by the Trail Gascon which uses some of the Saint-Jacques de Compostelle pilgrim tracks in the Gers and also the motocross circuit at Gimont - not too technical and nearly all runnable (by the fit!). Consequently I really did not need the incentives of a pre-race bottle of 'Floc de Gascogne' or post-race 'saucisse fraîche grillée' and 'vin rouge du pays' to enter this event for the third successive year but they added to the pleasure and reinforced happy memories.
After a relative heatwave on Saturday to melt the last of the snow there was not as much mud as I had anticipated (except on the motocross switchback) and I got round the circuit (described variously between 19 and 21 km) in 1:48:28 (36th overall)
This was 2nd in my V3 category which was over-rewarded with a second bottle of Floc and a cup.
