The 550 or so UK veterans gathered for this full track-and-field meeting included some 14 racewalkers, with four over 80's.

This was to have been 'pay-back time' but last year's 80+ winner (by 0.58 sec) from the distant North Midlands, decided not to start, telling me there was a shortage of race judges, and being President of the Race Walking Association, he had offered his services.

With the two remaining opponants offering no real opposition, the 'national championship' for this age-group thus became another 'walkover' -  hardly surprising as racewalking is such a thinly supported section of our sport. Still worthwhile however, especially if competitive running is physically impossible and you enjoy involvement in Athletics.
