26.34 hard miles in the mud, clay, flooded fields of The Belvoir Challenge today in 08:20:56. Really hard going in places but what a glorious sunny day it was. I was doing ballerina impressions in some places whilst trying not to fall over, but I did manage to sit on my bum at one stage. The event started in the village of Harby (Leicstershire) and we followed paths, tracks and a disused railway to CP 1 at Barkestone (6.41m) where we were greeted with tea, sandwiches and loads of cakes. The next checkpoint (CP 2 - 10.85m) in the village hall at Woolsthorpe also had the obligatory feast as did CP 3 (17.32m) at Croxton Kerrial reached by a hilly part of the route that passed Blevior Castle. The route continued along more muddy paths and a long woodland stretch to CP 4 (21.97m) at Wood Lane and the last of the check point nosh. The final stretch to the finish back in Harby Villageand a welcome soup and an assortment of puddings took us onto the scarepment, passing an old beacon that could be seen at Lincoln Cathederal and dropping down through muddy fields and then a footpath home.
