A while ago we received this invite via the club. “Leighton Fun Runners would like to invite you to their Invite Run with a difference.... come and join us for a woodland run through the beautiful Rushmere park followed by a picnic and games.” Sylvia and I decided to go along somewhat at the last minute and it turned out to be just what was offered on the tin. It also turned out that we were the only non-LFR members to make an appearance, however, this did not matter. We were made welcome and 6 of us set off for a most enjoyable run in a new area for me. It’s like Maulden Woods but add in a café, nice toilets that make the £2 parking good value by itself, and a picnic meadow that caught the sun perfectly. We did a fairly relaxed 5 miles with a good bit of chatter among the group. There is a lot of scope for running in the area being situated on the Greensands Walk and the Grand Union Canal is not far away (the Dirt Half uses both). After the run I bought a few supplies at the café and the Leighton Fun Runners kindly augmented our poorly planned picnic with sandwiches, cake and chocolate crispies. Meanwhile the younger ones played giant Jenga and skittles before joining in with the tug of war. We didn’t really have enough Bedford Harriers for the club match – maybe next time!

Thank you Leighton Fun Runners.
