For this 23.5 mile circuit of
Wensleydale half the challenge was getting to the start at Askrigg,
with torrential rain making many of the surrounding roads
impassable. About half the entries were DNS. The 'race' started on
time from inside the village hall with the first few miles diverted
away from flooded riverside paths before joining the planned
route at Stalling Busk. A couple of hours in the weather relented
for a while as we passed Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle, but
heading back the (head)wind picked up again and later finishers
enjoyed a return of the rain. Back in the village hall it was
time to tuck into the excellent stew, rice pudding & cake.
