After finding out the Chicks Chase 5K had been cancelled on the Wednesday, I needed a 5K to fill its space this week and so found The Kedington 5K which was being organised by Haverhill Running Club.

Eventually finding my way to the car park, after a lot of twists and turns in this rural area close to Haverhill, I was quite taken back by the amount of entertainment and stalls that were being put up. For such a little village, Kedington seemed to have a field the same size as itself. Obviously the race was going to tie in somehow to the village fete.

I have never entered an event on the day before but it was quick and easy and the same price as entering in advance. There were only a few people around the start at the time so I assumed that plenty more would turn up later as it was still quite early, although there was a maximum of 200 runners that could be taken.
Ten minutes before the start of the race I could only male runners and the majority were from Haverhill Running Club. Normally I wouldn't have complained but it was apparent that they were all extremely fit and athletic....... and then there was me!! We had to take a bit of a walk to the start so I got chatting to a couple of lads who were saying that they use this course for their time triak and that they will no doubt come last but I was able to reassure them that they were talking nonsense and the only one that would be last today would be me. The female runners had already made it to the start.

The course was described as undulating..... the start was a great big hill that seemed to carry on forever. The course was on roads (not traffic free) and a bit of grass at the finish and mileage markers were placed at every kilometre. The marshalls were helpful and supportive, even showing concern when I had to stop and have a good scratch underneath my knee support (I couldn't hold that itch any longer as it was driving me crazy and so gave in to it around 4K).

The momento was a Kedington 5K mug. Prizes and awards were given at the end and then it was time to hit the bar, cake stalls and entertainments.

The weather was good; it was very sunny, very hot and without anything but the faintest of breeze.
