We arrived early for our start
time. I registered and arranged the running order of our senior
men and me (the Vet)!
Danny was the first off the mark and the pack went away up the hill leaving us almost in the wake!. That was a very sobering thought process for us all as the quality of runners was really amazingly fast!! It was a 2 lap course and we could watch the runners round this very undulating course. Adam Hills was next into the pen and was very nervous about his contribution to the team. Danny came in a time of 21.46 and Adam started his laps and finished in a very respectable 23.09. It was a very humbling experience as we were not counting how many runners in front but behind us! You could see the faster runners overtaking and making the runners look like they were having a stroll in the park!! Andy P was the next leg as we heard 'Here comes the World Champion in.....' our lads were having a fantastic run against these very professional runners. Andy's time 22.44 Phil took the next leg and you could watch his leisurely style across the fields giving him a time of 22.06 - not so leisurely! Next up Chris Dilley and the hills were hanging onto his legs - so 23.10 and handed over to me to bring the team home. I went off hard trying to find someone to chase down but most had finished by now but I did manage to pass 2 but only 1 place up. 22.38 and the old man finished with the team in 60th place. A very well organised event and we were pleased it was over - lol. Gary Finch |
