5K Race Report
The Friday 5K crew were at it again this month in what turned out to be glorious sunshine in London’s Hyde Park. Keith, the clever driver, happily arranged the travel plans to London for us and all agreed with his agenda in catching the 10.18am train. Adam managed to consume some kit-kit bars in helping to obtain some last minute carbohydrates during the journey. Joe and Kathy took onboard a hot drink they purchased from the station café.
Once we arrived at St. Pancras International, we managed to collect some free loaves of bread from the concourse to take home for later. At Hyde Park itself, the one and only Alan Shillitoe suddenly appeared from nowhere while Adam, Justin, Alan, Joe and Kathy warmed up their legs around the first kilometre. A group photo was then taken before the nerves begun to shiver in anticipation of the 12.30 start announcement.
Adam managed to proceed and touched the first kilometre in 3m 36s while the mighty Justin was not far behind. Adam managed to look ahead and not worry who was close behind him. Kathy, on the other hand, had her shoe lace to worry about since it had become undone. However, good old Keith managed to perform well despite an apparent loss in body weight. Rumour quickly spread that the one and only Alan created a PB. Meanwhile, Joe showed a good performance today in what were warm conditions.
To celebrate, we ventured over to the usual pub restaurant to have a drink and lunch outside. Keith meanwhile, enjoyed his pints of alcohol without hesitation. Justin stayed in London and was left behind as we dashed for the delayed 3.30pm train to Bedford. Seats were scattered and good old Keith was persuaded to sit with us. In all, a fantastic day was had by all concerned!
